Satisfying Mid-South Taste Buds
Since 1935
by Haley Beiter, Positively Mid-South Magazine It was 75 years ago that Memphian Nat Buring began working in his butcher shop on Summer Avenue, cutting meat and forging a dream that would create two flavorful traditions that Mid-Southerners would grow to love. Today, King Cotton and Circle B brand meats still satisfy taste buds in Memphis and the Mid-South, thanks to Monogram Foods' strong past and growing future. A group of local investors spearheaded by Memphis' own Karl Schledwitz, founded Monogram Foods in 2004 with the purchase of the King Cotton and Circle B brands from Sara Lee Corporation, thus bringing the historic brands back home to local ownership in Memphis. Six years later, Monogram Foods has grown rapidly with 15 brands of
smoked meats and jerky made in three manufacturing plants (Muncie,
IN, Martinsville, VA, and Chandler, MN) employing more than 800 people.
Monogram recently moved into its new home office at the corner of Park
and White Station in the heart of Memphis. |
