Celebrity Clout

"Ever wonder why companies pay big bucks to associate themselves with celebrities? The answer lies in Tuesday night's edition of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

Memphis-based Monogram Food Solutions got a huge, free national plug for its Jeff Foxworthy jerky from -- who else -- Jeff Foxworthy. Not only did the popular redneck comedian promote the jerky bearing his name, he had Leno sampling it on air.

The jerky is made in Chandler, Minn., under a licensing agreement with Foxworthy and will be sold soon in groceries around the U.S.

Monogram is headed by Memphians Karl Schledwitz and Wes and Ches Jackson. Foxworthy is both the licensee and an investor in the deal."
